About

Found Objects and Still Life is an ongoing studio project, shaped by regular painting and the encouragement to spend time in the studio, even on the sunniest of days. It offers space to work intuitively, play with colour, shape and texture, and experiment more freely through smaller paintings, particularly when larger works feel harder to begin or return to.

The subjects are drawn from coastal living and Mediterranean travel: antique terracotta pots, sailboats, flowers, bikinis drying in the sun, and fruit, flowers and found objects gathered on walks to the studio.

Over time, these smaller paintings have become an essential part of my practice, acting as test tiles for future works, guiding colour, encouraging play and opening up new processes and ways of working.

Often painted onto reclaimed plywood, the slight irregular shapes and imperfect wonky edges become part of the work itself. Some paintings are finished in a day, while others remain on the studio shelves for weeks or months, waiting for their final mark.

about mila may

Mila May is an artist living and working by the sea in Falmouth, Cornwall. With a degree in Printed Textile Design from Falmouth University, her practice sits somewhere between painting and printmaking, working with acrylic, relief inks and mixed media.

Influenced by traditional screen-printing techniques, thin layers of acrylic are brushed and buffed into panel and paper over time. Colour is built slowly through a process of layering, revealing and reworking, creating paintings rich in softness, depth and texture.

Playful forms, warm muted colours and a love of simple shapes sit at the heart of Mila's collections.

about the work

Painting from her Falmouth studio, Mila works predominantly with acrylic and mixed media, layering paint and drawing onto panel, paper and wood.

Inspired by everyday coastal living, sweet summer delicacies, warm Mediterranean holidays and childhood summers idling outdoors, her paintings celebrate colour, play and nostalgia.

Mila's current body of work explores the joyful memories we carry with us and the objects and still lifes that shape our everyday.

Beach balls, flowers, sailboats, antique pots and deli goods appear throughout her collections, inspired by life's small pleasures and the moments that stay with us long after returning home.
