inspiration behind the collection

Found Objects and Still Life is an ongoing studio project, shaped by regular painting and the encouragement to spend time in the studio, even on the sunniest of days. It offers space to work intuitively, play with colour, shape and texture, and experiment more freely through smaller paintings, particularly when larger works feel harder to begin or return to.

This body of work explores coastal living and Mediterranean travel: antique terracotta pots, sailboats, flowers, bikinis drying in the sun, and fruit, flowers and found objects gathered on walks to the studio.

studio practice

Mila May is an artist living and working by the sea in Falmouth, Cornwall. With a degree in Printed Textile Design from Falmouth University, her practice sits somewhere between painting and printmaking, working with acrylic, relief inks and mixed media.

Influenced by traditional screen-printing techniques, thin layers of acrylic are brushed and buffed into panel and paper over time. Colour is built slowly through a process of layering, revealing and reworking, creating paintings rich in softness, depth and texture.

Playful forms and warm muted colours sit at the heart of Mila's work.
