about mila

Mila May (b. 1997) is a British contemporary artist living and working in Falmouth, Cornwall.

Working predominantly in acrylic and mixed media on panel, paper and wood, her practice sits between painting and printmaking. Informed by a background in traditional screen printing and a degree in Printed Textile Design from Falmouth University, thin layers of acrylic are brushed, buffed and reworked over time, creating surfaces rich in colour, texture and depth.

Mila has exhibited throughout Cornwall, including at The Studio, Falmouth and most recently at Form Falmouth this Spring. Her work is held in private collections throughout the UK and internationally.

about the artist's work

Mila's paintings are shaped by nostalgic daydreams and everyday observations, realised through warm earthy colour palettes, simplified forms and playful compositions.

Drawing inspiration from childhood countryside summers, everyday coastal living, mediterranean travel, still life, and found objects, her collections often centre on dream-like summer pasttimes: beach balls, sailboats, flowers, antique pots, tomatoes and mediterranean delicacies gathered on her travels.

Through colour, form and composition, her work reflects a lasting fascination with nostalgia, play and the small pleasures of daily life.

I adore The Joy of Exploring and Experimenting with Paintings, not quite knowing how a piece is going to turn out or where in the world it's going to travel.
