Inspiration

A quiet ode to slow days on vacation in a Tuscan hilltop town, where cypress trees and cool swaying palms frame terracotta rooftops. Sun-warmed stone steps wind through herbaceous woodland, leading to a peaceful harbour and the turquoise Mediterranean Sea.

Nearby, al‑fresco suppers unfold on tables dressed with colourful handmade ceramics and bold local flavours. Fresh organic vegetables, garden flower adorned mezze platters and seafood at its finest, a true feast for the senses.

about mila may

Mila May is an artist living and working by the sea in Falmouth, Cornwall. With a degree in Printed Textile Design from Falmouth University, her practice sits somewhere between painting and printmaking, working across crayon, pastel, relief ink, gouache, acrylic and digital drawing tools.

Her collection's move between loose line work, painted studies and simple forms, allowing drawing to become a way of holding onto places, seasons and passing moments.

about drawings of the med

Drawings of the Med is a growing collection of hand-drawn, digital works and paintings, shaped by the colours, food and slower pace of Mediterranean holidays and British summers by the sea. The collection reflects on the everyday moments that make a place feel warm, nostalgic and deeply familiar, the kind of memories that quietly stay with us for years.

made for daydreaming

Drawings of the Med holds onto summers gone by, places once visited and travels still to come, gathering together the colours, objects and memories that stay with us long after returning home.

Hilltop towns, Italian tomatoes, seaside suppers, striped parasols, swimwear and coastal landscapes appear throughout the works, drawn from life, photographs and memory.

Some are observed in the moment, while others are recalled later through colour, form and feeling.
